INDIA COUNTRY STUDY 2019

This publication helps apparel brands becoming aware of the most common human rights risks in their production supply chain in India. The research provides:

  • An overview of the country socio-economic, governance and human rights background. An overview of the garment industry in India is also provided.

  • An overview of national and international laws, as well as the main international guidance on labour rights.

  • Human rights risks in production sites in Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Tirupur. Risks are identified through desk research, stakeholders engagement, FWF audit findings and FWF complaints.

  • Non-judicial access to remedy mechanisms available both at national and international level for victims of labour rights abuses by the garment sector.

  • A check-list for companies to implement the United Nations Guiding Principles (UNGPs).
